William Fitzgerald Obituary
He was born in New London on June 16, 1940, the son of the late William and Madeline Fitzgerald of Mystic. He graduated from Stonington High School in 1958 and then joined the Air Force where he served for two years. After serving his country, he accepted a position with Electric Boat in Groton where he remained for 52 years in various jobs with the most current being as project manager. Bill was still employed at Electric Boat at the time of his death.
Bill was very involved in community affairs such as the North Stonington Agricultural Fair Assoc., he was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick where he was currently serving as president, life member of the North Stonington Fire Dept., New London County Fire Chiefs Assoc., life member of North Stonington Ambulance Assoc., North Stonington Grange where he was honored as Grange Citizen of the Year in 1995, and was awarded the State of Connecticut Public Service Award for 25 years of dedicated service to the Town of North Stonington in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Roseanne (Sylvester) Fitzgerald who he married on Sept. 19, 1961. Bill and Judy moved to North Stonington in 1966. He is also survived by his children, William W. Fitzgerald Jr., Sheila M. Bond and her husband, Gary, and a son, James A. Fitzgerald and his wife, Alice; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bill was very involved with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with all of them and helping them in their activities. He was greatly loved by his entire family. He will also be missed by his faithful companion, his black lab "Ashlyn" who accompanied him to their favorite place, Dairy Queen for ice cream.
Bill's family will greet relatives and friends from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., historic downtown Mystic. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon, at St. Thomas More Church, Rte. 201, North Stonington. Burial with presentation of military honors will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North Stonington Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 256, N. Stonington, CT 06359.

I am very saddened to hear of Bill's passing, what a legacy of family values he has left to his family. It is with happiness I remember this family in my younger days in Cedar Ridge and who could forget St Thomas Moore, I don't know who's family took up a bigger pew. To the Fitzerald Family - My deepest condolences on your loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. What a remarable man he was. Judy, Sheila was like a daughter to me and please hug her for me. Hopefully she will come down to FL to stay with me for awhile with your grandchildren. You are also welcome to come with her.

It is with a sad heart that I offer my condoences to Bill's family. I have know Bill since we were four years old and we shared our childhood together, cowboys and indians, hide and seek, Holy Communion, Conformation, grammer school at Broadway, and Stonington High School. He was taken much too early. I pray that our Lord will comfort the family during this sad time.

Bill was a customer of mine at J Solomon Stationers in New London for as long as I can remember working for them...24 years! He was a real genuine man and I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

I am very sad to hear of Billy's passing. He was a wonderful man and helpful to all of those that he touched. He was always to first one to say "If you need any help, give me a call". EB will not be the same without Billy.

Thoughts, Prayers and Condolences to the Fitzgerald Family. What can I say about this man? Eastern Connecticut has lost a solid, honest and hard working individual. We worked together for over 30 years at EB and I never heard him utter a cross word. He was the man EB could count on to do a job at 150% and never doubt the outcome. I've seen him, at the drop of a hat, drive to New York to pick up something needed for a special occasion. He was the "Go to Man" for a myriad of special things - too numerous to list. Five decades of complete commitment to EB and a lifetime of Family commitment and commitment to North Stonington. He was a special person.
