Stanley Secora Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2011.
Waterford - Stanley Secora, 90, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, following a long, happy, and healthy life.

Stanley was born Sept. 22, 1920, in New London, the son of the late John L. and Julia M. Secora. He was a proud graduate of the Bulkeley School and went on to become a naval architect. He took great pride in his employment as supervisor of shipbuilding for the U.S. Navy. One of the earliest members of the Thames Yacht Club, he dedicated much of his life to his love of sailing. He and his late wife, Leslie Langenkamp, were outstanding sailboat racers together. Stanley was committed to the quality of his work, the happiness of his family, and the safety of his country.

He dearly loved and was loved in return by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Margie Secora; his granddaughter, Heather and her husband, Stephen Harmon, and granddaughter, Marcy and her husband, Jack Griguoli, and their daughter, Stanley's "Gem", great-granddaughter, Ashley Valentine Griguoli.

Friends and family are invited to a gathering in his memory from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London.

One of the many things Stanley enjoyed in his later years was listening to upbeat classical music and news on NPR.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to www.npr.org

Stan will always be remembered by those of us affiliated with the Niantic Boat Yard, owned by my Grandfather and Father for many years, where Stan stored three of his boats during the winter months. The first was a Adams Interclub, which Stan owned from right after World War II until 1960, when he purchased and commissioned a brand new Dolphin 24. In 1967, Stan bought a new Tartan 27, which he owned up into the 1980s. Stan was a wonderful man, with a great knowledge of naval architecture. He offered technical support to my Grandfather, my Father, and myself over the many years we ran the Niantic Boat Yard. Stan was always there when we needed a hand...regardless of what the mission was. He was indeed a friend, and will be missed.
