Montville - John R. "Bud" McHale Jr., 90, of Uncasville, died on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at The William W. Backus Hospital.

He was born in Bozrah, on June 28, 1921, to the late John R. and Eleanor (Cole) McHale Sr. "Bud" enlisted in the Army Air Corps fighting in World War II until his honorable discharge. He worked throughout his life as a laborer at various locations as part of the Connecticut Laborers' Union.

"Bud" married his beloved wife, Winifred (Strickland), and they raised their family in Uncasville until she passed away.

He retired 30 years ago and was able to enjoy retirement by traveling and camping with his close friend, Lucy. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. "Bud" loved the shore, dogs, watching racing, and enjoying the simple life. He was a mainstay at Herb's Deli for breakfast every morning with a stool just for him with his name beside it. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his sons, Norman and his wife, Melanie McHale, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Richard and his wife, Cheryl McHale, of Uncasville; four grandchildren, Teri and Mike McHale and Mark and Rebecca Cloutier; three great-grandchildren, Tatiana, Ariana, and Aiyana Cloutier; several nieces and nephews; and his special close friend, Lucy Hackbart.

He was predeceased by his wife, Winifred; daughters, Kathy Jean Cloutier and Gloria Jean McHale; a brother, Sonny; and three sisters, Louise, Helen, and Betty.

A private graveside service will be held at the Fort Shantok Burial Ground in Uncasville with military honors at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Foundation, 888 7th Ave., Suite 400, NY NY 10019 or call 646-253-7100 or email [email protected]

Norm, Rick and Families,
It has been many years since I have seen either of you, but I have spoken to your Dad several times in the last few years, when I've been in town (at Herbs and Beit Bros). It was always a pleasure...such a delightfully upbeat man. My sincere sympathy at this very sad time.

Dear Rick, Cheryl and family, your Dad was always the "bright spot" of my day when I worked at the deli and I know how deeply he will be missed.

We all loved hearing about his adventures along with his funny stories and jokes...

I'll always remember how he would say "look at that little turnip" whenever he saw a young child; an endearing memory I'll hold in my heart forever.

Bud has left us all with such wonderful memories that will help bring comfort and peace to all who love him. The song of one's life never ends!

With sympathy and love,
Sharon

I knew "BUD" from the 1930s and recall seeing him off to the CC when we lived in Sodom. After which waited for his return from WW2. We were neighbors and friends for a long time. Fond memories. Last time I saw him was at "Herbs " a few years ago. God speed his Flight-
