Westerly - Filomena (DeJesus) Alves, 89, formerly of Miami Beach, Fla., Old Lyme, and Hartford, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Westerly Health Center.

Mrs. Alves was born on Sept. 29, 1922, on Madeira Island, Portugal, the daughter of Henrique and Rosa DeJesus Alves.
She was predeceased by her husband, Antonio F. Alves.
She immigrated to the U.S. in 1953, and lived for many years in Hartford where she was a communicant at Our Lady of Fatima Church. She was employed for many years at Arrow Hart & Hegeman Co., until her retirement in 1980. She was then a longtime resident of Old Lyme where she was a parishioner of Christ the King Church. Mrs. Alves was a skilled seamstress who enjoyed her gardens, living near the ocean, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and friend.
Mrs. Alves is survived by her daughter, Maria; her two sons, Antonio and Henry; and her five grandchildren, Melissa, Emily, Nazare, Alexandra, and Jason.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Christ the King Church, Old Lyme. Interment will follow in Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme.
