Montville - William Lathrop Huntington III, 63, of Oakdale, died unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at his home.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was born in Norwich, on Sept. 24, 1949, to the late William and Eleanor (Mueller) Huntington Jr. "Bill" was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy in 1967 and Rutgers University in 1971. On Sept. 15, 1972, he married his beloved wife Susan (Piazza) in Groton. Together they raised their family while living in the area.
Bill worked for the State of CT Dept. of Finance & Control as an investigator, Mallon Chevrolet as finance and insurance manager, and later, commercial and fleet sales, and a myriad of positions for General Motors Acceptance Corp., until his retirement. Civically, he was involved as a member of the Central Baptist Church of Norwich, the former Lodge of Elks, was treasurer of Montville Babe Ruth Baseball, and was an active member of the Montville High School Booster Club while his children attended there. He was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Of all his achievements, accomplishments, and involvement in organizations and clubs, what brought him the most joy was time spent with family.
He traced his ancestry directly to Simon and Christopher Huntington, who helped settle Norwich in 1659. He was a member of the Huntington Family Association, a national group of 1,600 persons of Huntington ancestry. He was also a member of the Nathan Hale and Samuel Huntington Chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Jill Mazzalupo and husband, Marc, of Old Lyme, Melissa Huntington and partner, Brooke Henderson, of Holliston, Mass.; son, William L. Huntington IV of Oakdale; a brother, James L. Huntington and wife, Susanne, of Voluntown; uncle, Robert Huntington and wife, Florence; grandchildren, James and Matthew Mazzalupo and Olivia Huntington; along with several cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
