New London - Mary Montanari, 92, of New London, entered eternal life in the comfort of her loving family on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014.|
She was born Aug. 19, 1921, in "The Fort" section of New London, the daughter of the late Enrico and Romilda (Brardinelli) Bargnesi. At an early age she and her family moved to Fishers Island where she grew up and graduated from Fishers Island High School, Class of 1939. She was united in marriage to Hugo John Montanari on July 17, 1948 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Mr. Montanari died March 25, 1967.
Mary was formerly employed by the Corps of Engineer at Fort Wright on Fishers Island and then later at Electric Boat as an administrative assistant, retiring in 1985 after twenty years. Mary was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She would credit her greatest accomplishment in life to be her family. She instilled in them that hard work and perseverance would bring success in life.
Mary was also predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and Taoromino (died in infancy).
She is survived by her three loving children, Susan MacDonald and husband, Alex, of Waterford, Stephen Montanari and wife, Paula, of New London, and Sandra Montanari of New London; four adoring grandchildren, Matthew Montanari, Chantel Lamoureux, Stephen Montanari II and Adam Montanari; five great-grandchildren, Justin, Lauren, Lacey, Sienna and Stephen III; and her grand-pet, Nala.
Her family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave. New London. The funeral will assemble at 9 a.m. Saturday and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
