Groton - Doris E. Jahns, 84, of 91 Buddington Road, Groton, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

She was born in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., on April 27, 1929, the daughter of Henry W. and Elizabeth (Schulz) Blumlein.
Doris had been a telephone operator for New York Telephone and she had operated the switchboard at SCADD in New London for twelve and a half years. She also had been a private duty nurse's aide. She was a member of the Noank Baptist Church, the Groton Senior Citizens and TOPS.
Doris is survived by her son, Keith W. Jahns of Mystic; her daughter, Dawn Hanecak of Bolton; her brother, Richard W. Blumlein of Riverside, Calif.; grandchildren, Todd, Dwayne, Alana, Michelle and Heather; six great-grandchildren and a special cousin, Michael Reubold of Germany.
She was predeceased by a son, George Carter; and a brother, Richard Blumlein.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton.
