New London - Raymond F. Haworth, 85, formerly of Thames St., died Friday, March 7, 2104, at Greentree Manor in Waterford.

He was born in New Bedford, Mass., Dec. 24, 1928, the son of Fred and Evelyn (Chartier) Haworth.
He married Martha Gerity on Feb. 9, 1957.
Raymond served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He received his bachelor's degree from the former New Bedford Textile Institute. He was retired from Electric Boat Co., in Groton, where he had been employed as a mechanical engineer. Mr. Haworth was well known in New London, serving more than 20 years on the board of education. He also was an outstanding athlete, known as "Lefty" by teammates in both baseball and basketball.
He is survived by a son, James Haworth (Tina) of Highland Ranch, Colo.; three daughters, Ann Gallagher (Michael) of Englewood, Colo., Jean Perry (James) and Mary Haworth, both of New London; and two step-brothers, Rick Haworth of Naples, Flas, and Robert Haworth of Pawtucket, R.I. He is also survived by son-in-law, John Maynard; eight grandchildren; a nephew and a great nephew.
He was predeceased by his wife, Martha, and sons, Robert and John Haworth.
The funeral will assemble at 9:15 a.m. on Friday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
