Preston - Harold "Harry" C. Dahl Jr., 85, formerly of Norwich and Canterbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2014.

Harry was born on June 2, 1928, in Norwich, to the late Harold and Ruth (Whiting) Dahl Sr. He was the retired head of the Dahl Oil Co. and director of the New England Fuel Institute. Harry graduated from NFA in 1946 and Brown University in 1950.
As a volunteer for many years at The William W. Backus Hospital, he formed many rewarding friendships. He also volunteered as a docent at Harkness Memorial State Park. Harry received an award from the Norwich YMCA for being the longest participating member.
Harry got a lot of satisfaction out of playing golf but admitted he was only a "duffer".
He is survived by his three daughters, Ann Putnam of Naples, Fla., Ellen Hall of Noank and Susan Yepez of Tijeras, New Mexico; and his sister, Betty Volgenau. His family included seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and was formerly married to Virginia E. Dahl of Canterbury.
He was predeceased by a son, John E. Dahl.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be private for the family immediately following the funeral service.
