Stonington - Charles Norman Wright, 66, beloved husband for 43 years, and high school sweetheart of E. Deborah Wright of Stonington, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2014, under the care of Hospice at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by his immediate family, after courageously battling cancer for six years.

Charlie Wright was the son of the late Norman J. and Helen May (Cherry) Wright of Carolina, R.I.

Besides his wife, Charlie is survived by their four children, Heather Wright and her husband, Jon Ford, of Providence, R.I., Julie DelPrado and her husband, Juan, of Old Mystic, Erin Wright of Providence, R.I., and Matthew Wright of Richmond, R.I.; along with five grandchildren, Diego, Joaquin and Lorenzo DelPrado of Old Mystic, and Morrison and Annalise Ford of Providence, who all adored their "Digi" and brought great joy and comfort to his life. He also is survived by his brother, Robin Wright of Carolina, R.I.

Charlie enjoyed being part of the entire Perreault extended family, whom he considered as his own. Their frequent calls, visits, laughter, and warm concern brightened his days. Charlie will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.

Charlie was a graduate of Chariho High School and Johnson and Wales College. While at Chariho, he was a member of the Rhode Island Honor Society and the 1966 Rhode Island State Championship Baseball Team. When his son started playing in the Pawcatuck Little League, Charlie became a coach. Charlie's love of baseball was lifelong and he was overjoyed to sit in the Green Monster seats with his oldest grandson at his first Red Sox Game at Fenway Park in the spring of 2013.

Charlie was a toy train hobbyist, who introduced each of his grandchildren to the joy of operating classic toy trains under the Christmas tree and, during his final days, he finished layouts for each grandchild. He also loved working in the garden and sharing the tomatoes, cucumbers, and asparagus with his family.

Charlie was treasurer for the Chariho Jaycees and was a member of the RI AMC Dealers' Association. Charlie was the owner/operator of Wright's Garage in Carolina for many years and owned and operated RI Suzuki. Charlie was also a past volunteer for the Stonington Soup Kitchen. He was the director of facilities at Pine Point School for eighteen years, leaving at the onset of his illness. Pine Point remains dear to his heart.

Charlie considered his very greatest accomplishment in life to be his family whom he loved and cherished.

In lieu of flowers, Charlie requested memorial contributions be made to Pine Point School in support of the endowment fund: Pine Point School, c/o David Hannon, 89 Barnes Road, Stonington, CT 06378.
