He was born in New London, on Sept. 20, 1960, the son of Leonard Contillo Sr. of New London and the late Theresa (Alarie) Contillo.
John was a devoted husband for 32 years to his high school sweetheart, Debbie (Green) Contillo, also of Quaker Hill and North Port, Fla.; and a devoted father to his two children, Carissa Lee Contillo of Quaker Hill and John Thomas Contillo Jr. of Greenville, R.I.
John loved to make breakfast for his family, go on trips with his wife, do yard work until it was too dark out to see, as well as mentor and coach. He was active in the community, coaching his son in baseball at Waterford Little League North; as well as coaching at New London, Stonington and Waterford High Schools over the years. John also coached girl's basketball at Montville High School. If John wasn't coaching, he could be seen watching little league games from the roof of his garage. John always encouraged others to try their best and never give up. John never gave up his battle with brain cancer, fighting for nearly 6 years until the very end.
Along with his wife and two children and father, he is survived by his son-in-law, Tom Secchiaroli and grandson, JT, both of Quaker Hill; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Contillo and grandson, Colby, both of Greenville, R.I.; and his eight siblings, Mark Contillo of Uncasville, Paul Contillo and wife, Jane, of Niantic, Alan Contillo and wife, Maureen, of Oakdale, Mary Yarborough and husband, Bruce, of Las Vegas, Nev., Karen McBride and husband, Michael, of Waterford, Paula Ranelli of Groton, David Contillo and wife, Carol, of Dayton, Ohio, and Leonard Contillo Jr. and wife, Monica, of Montville.
