New London - Michael T. Welch, 60, born in Southbridge, Mass., died peacefully at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital on Monday, July 14, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was the son of the late Stephanie (Czyzewski) Welch and Joseph Welch of Southbridge, Mass.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy and worked for Northeast Utilities Service Co. for the past 27 years as an electrician. Michael was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to go deep sea fishing with his friends and loved to hunt pheasant in the fall. He was a real outdoors man. He was kind, funny, a great story teller and loved his family and friends. He will be missed by all his nephews, nieces, family and friends.
Michael is survived by his brother, Ronald Welch of Charlton City, Mass.; and sisters, Mary Wojciechowski and husband, David, of Quinebaug, and Ellen Brunell and husband, Robert, of Forestdale, Mass.
He is predeceased by his brothers, Joseph Welch and his wife, Patricia, of Belchertown, Mass. and John Welch and his wife, Janice, of Kissimmee, Fla.; and sister, Cynthia Welch of Southbridge, Mass.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, in St. Stephens Church, 10 Old Turnpike Road, Quinebaug.
