New London - Carol (Borden) Holleman, 76, of Manhattan, N.Y., passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Fall River, Mass., on March 9, 1938, to the late Richard S. Borden and Mary (Cantwell) Borden. She grew up in Fall River and attended Durfee High School and graduated from Windham High School in Willimantic, Class of 1955. She graduated from Hartford Hospital Nursing School and then moved to Manhattan to work at NY Hospital for Special Surgery for many years. She moved to Newport Beach, Calif. in 1977 where she married her husband, Wilbur Holleman. She received her master's in nursing from the University of California and worked for many years as an APRN at the University of California Irvine Diabetes Research Program until moving back to Manhattan in 1997.
She is predeceased by her husband, Wilbur Jennings Holleman; and is the stepmother to his two sons, John M. Holleman of Napa, Calif. and Eric B. Holleman of Dallas, Texas.
She is survived by her two brothers, William Borden and his wife, Sandra, of New London and Richard Borden and his wife, Rita, of Manchester, and their three children, Mary Ellen McKernan and her husband, Paul Tortorella, of Andover, Mass., Cathy Healy and her husband, John, of Tolland and John Borden and his wife, Katie, of Glastonbury and Shanghai, China. She leaves her six wonderful grandnieces and nephews, Shannon Healy, Paige Healy, Connor McKernan, Aidan McKernan, Sean Borden and Erin Borden.
The family will receive family and friends from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Pacific View Memorial Park and Mortuary in Corona Del Mar, Calif.
