New London - Keith Edward Dwyer was born to Constance and William Dwyer on Oct. 31, 1953, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the third of four children. He moved to Connecticut with his family in 1955, and enjoyed growing up in Niantic's woods and on its beaches. As a dyslexic student, he was challenged by his classes but absolutely excelled as a teammate playing basketball for the East Lyme High School basketball team. He graduated from East Lyme High in 1973, Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical Culinary Arts Program in 1980, and achieved in 1987 Telephone Interconnectivity Training certification from Henkels and McCoy for installation and repair of station equipment.

It was just after high school while still in his teens that Keith was first diagnosed with adolescent onset schizophrenia. He spent the next 40 years suffering from this debilitating disease with a pronounced expressive language disorder where he misnamed or used incorrect words in sentences, often making him unintelligible yet unaware of it.
He lived independently in New London for the last 35 years. His greatest sorrow was the solitary nature of his life; that his disease took even simple understanding and communication with others away from him.
Keith Dwyer was a charming funny friendly kid who always wore his heart on his sleeve. As an adult, he was a caring son and brother.
In September, 2013, his beloved mother Connie preceded him in death.
He is survived by his faithful father, Bill Dwyer; sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Peter Lynch; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Doreene Dwyer; sister, Sharon Dwyer; niece, Taylor Lynch; and nephew, Ryan Lynch. He will be sorely missed.
Services and interment will be private.
