Glenn Bassett Obituary
An author, military veteran, business school dean, former General Electric executive, and devoted husband, Dr. Bassett is survived by his wife, Olivette; his children, Glenna (Bassett) Musante, Glenn Bassett Jr., John Severino and Olivette Severino; grandchildren, Michelle Musante, Jordan Bassett and Zachary and Reese Severino; and daughters-in-law, Therese Bassett and Diane Severino.
A veteran of the Korean War, Dr. Bassett is best known professionally as a pioneer in the field of industrial psychology and created the policies that became standard operating procedure at the General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) for recruitment, performance evaluation, promotions, and managerial training and selection. He also authored nine books on leadership and effective management practices, including "The Manager's Craft", an Amazon e-book, published in 2012.
Dr. Bassett was also the former dean of the School of Business at The University of Bridgeport. During his tenure at The University of Bridgeport, he led the university in winning international accreditation and was inducted into the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Region I Hall of Fame for his leadership in the council. He returned to teaching in 2005 as professor emeritus and continued to write until shortly before his death. He was also a proud Rotarian, and sang for many years in the choir of First Church of Christ in Saybrook, Congregational, where his wife was church organist.
Services for Dr. Bassett will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at the First Church of Christ in Saybrook, Congregational, 366 Main St., Old Saybrook.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Bassett's name in lieu of flowers to the Lolly Bassett Scholarship Fund at the church or to The American Cancer Society, Southern New England Region, 38 Richard Ave., Norwalk, CT. 06854.

To Lolly and family, I only had a brief moment in time to experience Glenn's spirit. In caring for Glenn, my focus was limited more to the every day physical aspects, and in reading about his life here, I'm amazed by how many ways he touched people throughout his life. The gift that he gave to me was to see how much he deeply loved and cared for his family. Wishing you moments of peace and comfort as you mourn the loss of such a wonderful man.

Thank all of you for taking a moment to share memories and kindness. Your warmth is felt at a difficult time. He taught me to embrace my challenges with a smile, and to love and pursue my own unique path with excellence. I hope every day I make him as proud as I always felt to have him in my life. I will miss him dearly and feel deep grief, but I know he'd want us all to stand up, put one foot in front of another, feel the good, and charge on.

To all that have stopped by this site and left memories, Thank You so much. My Dad was a great person and quite a role model. All of us in the Deep River Rotary Club are saddened at Glenn's passing. He was a good friend and a remarkable intellect, who was always in good spirits. We knew how much he cherished Lollie, and we always looked forward to his opinions and his sense of what the future challenges of the world would be. I am sure that his long tenure as a Rotarian was a way to help build the better world of which we all dream!
