Lawrence Bestwick Obituary

Richmond, R.I. - Lawrence A. Bestwick Sr., 75, of Wood River Junction, passed away Nov. 19, 2010. He was the son of the late Harold and Alice Bestwick, and he was predeceased by his brother, Richard Bestwick.

Besides his wife, Frances, he is survived by six sons and two daughters; Richard Bestwick and his wife Nancy, Ronald Bestwick and his wife, Terri, David Maggs and his wife, Polly, Sam Maggs, Brian Maggs and his wife, Danene, Lawrence A. Bestwick Jr.; his two daughters, Debra Maggs and Carol Smith; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Larry worked at Electric Boat for 35 years and then Richmond and Fenner Hill Golf Courses for 13 years. He was a life member of the Bradford Social Club, Bradford Citizens Club, and the Alton Volunteer Fire Department. He liked bowling and golfing, and he was an all-around New England sports fan, especially of his beloved Red Sox. His passion, however, was the Chariho Little League which he coached for 14 years and where he was enshrined into the Hall of Fame.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the S.R. Avery Funeral Home, corner of Main and Bank St., Hope Valley, R.I. Funeral services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family askes that donations be made to The Chariho Little League, 1158 Main St., Hope Valley RI 02832.
