Bradenton, Fla. - Kathleen (Hulsizer) Burns, 71, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Groton, passed away suddenly Sunday, March 20, 2011, at her home in Florida.

Born Aug. 28, 1939, in New London, she was the daughter of Nelson and Nan (Blake) Hulsizer.
Kathleen was a devoted wife, loving mother, and an awesome grandmother. She worked as a hotel general manager and director of sales and marketing for many years. She was a poet, artist, and a dynamic human being.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, Robert Burns; her three children, Kelli Brooks (Howard DeGraff) of Chicago, Ill., Kerri Brooks Edwards (Brad Edwards) of Washington, D.C., and Richard F. Brooks of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Bryan, Erin, Rory, Blakely, Nolan, Ian, Brendan, and Ben; and great-granddaughter, Ryan. She is also survived by her siblings, MaryAnn Weinstein of New Hyde Park, N.Y., Bill Hulsizer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Phillip Hulsizer of Palacious, Tex., and Liz Hulsizer of Evanston, Ill.
Family and friends are welcome between 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon, on Monday, March 28, 2011, at Sacred Heart Church in Groton. Father Greg Schenden S.J. will preside over the services. Burial will follow in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery in Groton.
