Groton - Anthony Louis Knirsch died peacefully Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, from complications of renal carcinoma. He spent the last days of his life at home, with his brother and family.

Mr. Knirsch was born in London, Ontario Canada in 1962 and moved to New England as a child, splitting time between southeastern Connecticut and southern Vermont, the latter where he ski raced competitively. Mr. Knirsch skied for the Northfield Mount Hermon High School team, and later went on to earn a bachelor's of architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. Mr. Knirsch worked in New York City and Noank as an artist and architect, working in historic preservation, and designing custom wood work installations.
Mr. Knirsch was a dear Uncle to many nephews and nieces. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth; brother, Charles; sister, Paula; sister-in-law, Rebeca; stepsisters, Kristen, Kathi and Kimberly; stepmother, Sue; as well as many relatives in The United States, Canada and The Czech Republic.
The family will have a private memorial service.
