Old Lyme - Donald O. Selby Sr., 74, died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at his vacation home on Hutchinson Island, Fla.
Donald was born in Hartford on March 30, 1937, the son of Lynn and Jane Selby. He married the love of his life, Elaine Benway, on April 12, 1958 and together raised their family in Old Lyme. He retired from Electric Boat in 1995, after 35 years of service and remained associated with the Old Saybrook Police Department until 2008.
He enjoyed boating, onshore fishing with his wife and devoted many hours to his grandchildren.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Donald Jr. of Hobe Sound, Fla., daughters, Susan and husband, Dennis Ryan, of Voluntown, Kathy and husband, Jim Strozeski, of Griswold, Lisa and husband, Mitch Jeffreys, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; and twelve grandchildren, Gelaine Strozeski, Amy Ryan, Sara and Jimmy Loarca, James Strozeski, Eric Ryan, Kate Ryan, Benway Selby, Trudie Selby, Shawn Reid, Allison Reid, Megan Reid; and one great-granddaughter, Skyla Strozeski. He is also survived by one brother, Robert Selby of Florida; and sister-in-law, Andree Crane of Chester.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at a later date.
