Obituary Condolences

North Stonington - Robert "Bobby" D. Boord, 35, slipped quietly and unexpectedly into eternity in his sleep on Jan. 26, 2012.

He was born on July 16, 1976, and graduated in 1995 from Wheeler High School, where he was the first student to pre-enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a quarter master boat driver on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Campbell and participated in search and rescue missions. Later he worked in administration at the Academy serving as station leader, boat driver, and as a military police officer.

After Sept. 11, he joined the newly formed Homeland Securty Task Force Maritime Security and Safety Team where he patroled the waters of New York Harbor and Sandy Hook Coast Guard Station in New Jersey. Bobby was instrumental in the Ground Zero clean-up of the twin towers and received personal citations for duty above and beyond. After 13 years in the Coast Guard, Bobby had enrolled in college to study law enforcement.

Bobby spent his whole life in North Stonington where he loved the woods, camping at his lean-to with his friends, and working on commercial fishing boats. He also loved dirt bike racing and was a member and former club officer of the Northeast Cycle Club #639, Plainfield. After 16 years of racing, he worked his way into the top ten Motocross racers in the Northeast Circuit.

Bobby is survived by his mother and step-father, Susan and Gary Myers of North Stonington and his father, Harry Boord of Conway, Pa.; his daughter, Naomi Renee Boord of North Stonington, who he loved more than life itself; his sister, Holly Myers of Newport, R.I.; his grandfather, Robert C. Boord Jr. of Conway; aunts and uncles, Tim and Judy Peterson and Debbie and Wayne Bellamy, all of Delaware, Robert and Marylyn Boord of Center Twp., Pa., Edgar and Holly Boord of New Sewickley, Pa., Sandy and Dale Southwick of White Twp., Pa., Lori Boord of Conway; stepsister, Robin M. Carabine and David and their son, Fintin, of Michigan; and many cousins.

He was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Basil and Grace Petterson of Monaca, Pa., and paternal grandmother, Gisela E. Boord of Conway, Pa.

There are no calling hours and his sea burial will be private.

The family would like to thank the U.S. Coast Guard and Eric Grebe for their continued and steady support in this time of loss.
