Frank D. Demicco Obituary
Norwich - Frank D. Demicco, 83, husband of Antoinette (Fazio) Demicco of 11 Norton Court, Norwich, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at New Britain Specialty Care Hospital.

Born in Norwich on May 19, 1928, he was the son of the late Virgilio and Adele (D'Andria) Demicco. He graduated from Norwich Free Academy in the class of 1945, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict being honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Service Star along with other medals. Frank was the owner-operator of the Liberty Restaurant Supply Store on East Main St. in Norwich.

He cherished his Italian heritage, his family and friends, and the city of Norwich, especially the East Side. Born and raised in the apartment above the family grocery store that eventually became the Liberty Restaurant Supply Store, Frank worked hard to beautify his beloved city and honor his ancestors from the Columbus Monument on the Green by Norwich Free Academy to restoring the East Side Fountain. He celebrated the Red Sox World Series victories with decorations in the Liberty Store windows. Frank was always working on a project or festival, but he still found time to spend with his family, talking politics or history, teasing his granddaughters, or sharing a true story.

In 1993 he was honored by the Italian Heritage Society and the American Legion as the "Italian of the Year". Since 1992, he was the co-chairman of the "Taste of Italy" held annually at Brown Park. He was vice president of the Italian Heritage Society, life member of the United Italian Society, VFW Post 594, and the Norwich Lodge of Elks, and also a member of the American Legion of Norwich, and the Norwich Democratic Town Committee. Frank was a commissioner for the Norwich Public Utilities, and a director of the Dime Bank in Norwich. A member of the East Side Fountain Committee, and the Columbus Memorial Committee. Also a member of the following, N.F.A. Reunion Committee, Italian American War Veterans, East Side Reunion Committee, New London County 4-H, since 1990 V.P. of the Italian Heritage and Cultural Committee, Charter Revision Commission, Norwich Communications Commission, Bishop School Expansion Committee, and the East Side Community Garden.

On November 6, 1955 at St. Mary Church in Norwich, he was united in marriage to Antoinette (Fazio) Demicco, who survives along with two sons, Douglas M. Demicco of Oakdale, and Michael V. Demicco and his wife, Brenda, of Farmington; one daughter, Patricia A. Demicco of Norwich; two grandchildren, Emily and Katie Demicco; one sister, Tina Snyder of North Haven; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, where the funeral will assemble at 8 a.m. Monday and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m., at the Cathedral of St. Patrick. Interment to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors.

In Lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the Frank D. Demicco Italian Heritage Scholarship Fund, c/o Dime Bank Scholarship Account, 33 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360.
