Minneapolis, Minn. - Gayle Teresa Curtis, 59, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at her home in Minneapolis, following a long illness.

Gayle was born on June 25, 1952, in New London. She grew up on Willetts Avenue with her parents, Theodore Curtis and Eliza Teresa (Yates) Curtis, and her four brothers, Ted (Hartford), Greg (New London), Eric (Florida), and Tom Curtis (Minneapolis). She graduated from Saint Bernard High School in 1970, where she excelled in theater arts.
Gayle moved to Minneapolis in the 1970's. In 1979, she married John Morgan Curtis Utley. They raised three daughters, Maximillia Teresa Curtis Utley (Minneapolis), Genevieve Eliza Curtis Utley (Minneapolis), and Alexandrea Pamela Curtis Utley (Vadnais Heights, Minn.). A former employee of the City of Minneapolis, Gayle also served many years as a volunteer guardian ad litem for children in Hennepin County Family Court (Minneapolis). She was proficient at languages, becoming fluent in both French and Japanese. She also learned Braille and transcribed books into Braille for the Library of Congress. But the greatest joy of her life was her children and her grandson, Nekolai Maximillian Curtis Utley, by daughter Genevieve.
Gayle is survived by her daughters; her grandson; her former husband; her brothers and their wives; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
