Waterford - Carolyn Parker Benvenuti, 62, of Waterford, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Smilow Cancer Center at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

She was born in Lincoln, Ill. on Jan. 20, 1950, the daughter of Avalyn Parker of Gainsville, Ga. and the late Ralph Parker. She grew up in Lincoln with her older sister Anne and younger brother Mark. She enjoyed spending time with her grandparents, Frank and Olivia Parker.

She attended grade school in North Caldwell, N.J. and West Essex Regional High School and went on to college at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Early on, she worked at Electric Boat Company and at Easter Seals in Hartford. She spent most of her career working for the CT Department of Higher Education and Veterans Administration in Hartford. She obtained her master's degree in counseling from Central CT State University in 2003. She had recently been working for the United Way in Gales Ferry.

Besides her mother, she is survived by her beloved husband, David Benvenuti, whom she met in 1992 and married on June 1, 1996. She also leaves behind her two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Christian Latyak and Nadine and Michael Finnerty; step sons and daughters-in-law, Marc and Keri Benvenuti and Eric and Erica Benvenuti; as well as her 7 grandchildren; and her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Michael Murray; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dana and Gene Kimery.

She was predeceased by her brother, Mark.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, at the Mystic Congregational Church, 43 East Main St., Mystic. Interment will be in Jordan Cemetery, Waterford. Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 Thursday, at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St. New London.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be directed to the Mystic Congregational Church or the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, 1868 Rte 12, Gales Ferry, CT 06335.
