New London - Frank James Laycock, 93, of 77 Woodlawn Road, New London, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Norwich, on Feb. 16, 1919, to Fred and Mary Ann Laycock.
His marriage to Eleanor Carter on March 21, 1942, enriched both their lives with love and happiness for 70 years. They enjoyed many cruises and spent the summers at their cottage in Maine.
During his time as owner of the former Laycock Business Machines on Meridian Street in New London, he became involved in many civic and community service organizations in New London that benefitted a wide array of civic, social, and educational interests, and the City of New London, and residents as a whole. His interest and involvement in this community followed him through his retirement years as well.
He joined the New London Rotary Club in 1950, became president in 1952, and presided over the charter of the Groton Rotary Club, an event that was attended by two Rotary International past presidents. His work in the New London Rotary Club earned him a Distinguished Service Award. Hel was also a recipient of the Dr. Carl Wies Club Service Award and was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey and his wife, Joan, of Port Charlotte, Fla.; his daughter, Suzanne and husband, Thomas Sypher, of Mystic; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott Laycock, Beth Wilson, and Lisa Connell; and three great-grandchildren, Sadie Connell, Emory Connell, and Jack Wilson.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
