Groton - Robert W. Watrous, 77, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Groton, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Groton.

He was born in Groton, on Sept. 24, 1934, the son of Ernest and Beatrice (Gracey) Watrous. Bob graduated from Robert E. Fitch Sr. High School in the class of 1952 and from Mitchell College in 1954. He worked at Electric Boat Co., retiring as a senior mechanical design manager in 1991.
Bob was married to the former Melanie McGovern in Groton, on July 5, 1980.
He was a life member of the Groton Lodge of Elks and a member of the Shennecosset Beach Club. He loved the water and was a bowler, skier, and golfer. Above all, he loved his family and valued his friendships. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey Watrous and his wife, Sandy, of Groton; a daughter, Jacqueline Godlewski and husband, Dan, of Round Rock, Texas; a step son, Geoffrey Maloney and his wife, Toniette, of Atlanta, Ga.; a step daughter, Melissa Maloney and her husband, Bryan Duffy, of Ridgewood, N.J.; his grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Michaela, Matthew, Marc, Madison, Grace, and Quinn; and a brother and two sisters.
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday with a memorial service at 6 p.m. at Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Private interment will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
