Charlotte Acquaviva Obituary

Mystic - Charlotte M. Acquaviva, 73, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, in Mystic.

She was born in Hartford, to Philip J. and Joyce W. Acquaviva. She attended The Chaffee School, Radcliffe College and completed her formal education at Harvard Law School, Class of 1963. Charlotte began her career in the trust department of The Connecticut Bank and Trust Company and continued practicing trust law at the Bank of Hawaii. She developed a case of island fever and decided to move to New York City. She changed her law focus to governmental affairs and worked for New York Life for approximately 20 years. Charlotte wanted to live closer to home and shifted her legal focus back to trust law at the Bank of New England until its demise. She completed her career at the Connecticut Insurance Department as counsel to the insurance commissioner.

Charlotte was formerly a member of the Board of Trustees at the Loomis Chaffee School. She was active in Episcopalian Church affairs both in New York City and Connecticut and had a true passion for helping individuals in many ways. She had a love for the classics and was always ready to discuss any topic. Charlotte thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephew whenever and wherever possible. She loved her two Abyssinian Cats, Fritz and Lily, who gave her great pleasure.

Charlotte is survived by her two brothers, Philip C. Acquaviva of Irving, Texas and Samuel S. Acquaviva and his spouse, Leslie, of Groton Long Point; four nieces and nephews, Dr. Kimberly Deanne Acquaviva and her wife, Katherine Estelle Brandt, and their son, Greyson Kendall Acquaviva, of Virginia, Jennifer Chaffee Acquaviva and her husband, Thomas Warren Bass, and their son, Thomas Chipman Bass, of Virginia, Kristen Rachel Acquaviva, of Erfurt, Germany and Jonathan Philip Acquaviva of Ghana, Africa.

She was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Jean Ellen.

Charlotte's family will greet relatives and friends between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic. A graveside service will follow the next day for family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlotte's name to HFPG, Inc. for the "Joyce and Philip Acquaviva Scholarship Fund" at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, 10 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford, CT 06106.

I am so sorry that Charlotte's Chaffee friends were unaware of the
extent of her illness and thus did not offer any succor for her in her
last months. We all loved her and will miss her.

I was so sorry to read of the passing of Charlotte. I worked for many years with Charlotte at CBT/BNE and lunched with her on several occasions. I enjoyed her company and her wealth of knowledge. She was a very pleasant and enjoyable person to be around. I am truly sorry for your loss.

My sincere sympathy to the Acquaviva family - I went to school with Sam through 6th grade at New Park Avenue School and moved to WH. Have the class picture of Miss Malloy's class in 6th grade - may the family remember the good times and know she's at peace.

Charlotte and I went to New Park Avenue Elementary School in Hartford together in the 1940s and 1950s. I still have the class picture of all of us. I also remember her, in addition to being a great student, as being a lot of fun.
