Palmetto, Fla. - Nancy J. Barnes, 79, of Palmetto, Fla., formerly of Oakdale, passed away peacefully Sept. 4, 2012, with her husband by her side.

Nancy was born June 4, 1933, in Derby, to Walter and Martha Plummer.
Nancy married Ralph Barnes Sr. on Oct. 22, 1952. When her husband was assigned to the Connecticut State Police Troop E in Groton, they moved to Oakdale in 1963. Nancy was a homemaker to her husband and three sons. They left Oakdale in March of 1995 for Palmetto to enjoy their retirement.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ralph J. Barnes Sr. of Palmetto; three sons, R. James Barnes and his wife, Patricia, of The Villages, Fla., and their daughters, Sarah, Mellissa, and Kimberly, Douglas Barnes of Groton, and his sons, Douglas Jr. and Matthew, Paul Barnes and his wife, Fiona, of Groton, and their children, Paul Jr., Rebecca, Christopher, Andrew, Alexis; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter "Bud" Plummer and his wife, Mary, of Meriden.
Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.
A celebration of her life will held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the Oakdale Fire Co., 444 Chapel Hill Road, Oakdale. Please join us for memories and a meal.
