Preston - Ernest A. Abrahamson, 88, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1924 in Preston. He was the son of the late Charles and Hilma (Gustafson) Abrahamson. He married the love of his life, Emma Brousseau in 1947. Together they had six beloved children.

Ernie served admirably in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. After the war, he served six months at Pearl Harbor and was then stationed at Johnson Atoll repairing the war ships.

He returned to his hometown of Preston, and began his career as a carpenter. He later worked as a construction supervisor with the State of Connecticut until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Preston City Volunteer Fire Department, VFW and the Preston City Congregational Church. He was an active member in the Preston community, volunteering his time to the zoning board, fair committee and the ambulance service. He was an umpire for the local Little League and youth basketball teams. Ernie was an avid gardener, woodworker, golfer and traveler, but most of all he loved being with his family. He and Emma spent numerous winters in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., where he enjoyed spending time with his family there.

He leaves behind his wife, Emma; six children, Gail Frederick of Preston, Gary Abrahamson of Pierson, Fla., Wayne Abrahamson of Old Lyme, Charlie Abrahamson of Griswold, Karen Desy of Worcester, Mass., and Ernie Abrahamson Jr. of Edgewater, Fla.; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.

He was predeceased by his brother, George Abrahamson; and sisters, Ruth Wheeler, Alice Black and Ellen Drugge.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Preston City Volunteer Fire Department, 412 Route 165, Preston, CT 06365 or the Preston City Congregational Church, 321 Route 165, Preston, CT 06365.
