Salem - David R. Myers, 55, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

He was born on March 17, 1958, in Indiana, Pa., the son of Howard C. "Skip" and Marion (Drass) Myers. David grew up in Indiana, Pa., and graduated from Indiana High School in 1976. After high school, he attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he received both bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry. While completing undergraduate and graduate studies, David worked as a paramedic for Citizens Ambulance Service in Indiana County. He began work for The Upjohn Co., in Kalamazoo, Mich., as an analytical chemist in 1984. He was employed by Pharmacia and most recently by Pfizer since 2006, as a pharmaceutical science team lead.
David married Mary Churma in 1982, in Indiana, Pa. They were happily married for 30 years.
David attended The Congregational Church of Salem. He was an Eagle Scout and served as assistant scout leader in Boy Scout Troop 123 in Salem.
David was preceded in death by his father, Howard Myers.
David is survived by his spouse, Mary of Salem; his sons, Daniel and Timothy, both of Salem; his mother, Marion of Indiana, Pa.; his brothers, John, Harry, and Daniel; and 11 nieces and nephews, all from Pennsylvania.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral at the conclusion of the calling hours. Burial will follow at a later date in Pennsylvania.
