Griswold - Rita Y. Marzec, 90, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2013, at GreenTree Manor in Waterford.

Born on June 2, 1923, in Lawrence, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Henry Topping and Marie (Dubé) Topping. Rita was united in marriage to Frederick Marzec in Griswold on June 22, 1946. He predeceased her.

Rita was employed as a textile worker for more than 40 years. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Griswold. Rita enjoyed traveling, gardening and puzzles. Most of all, however, she loved to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rita is survived by her daughter, Sandra Christina-Lumbert and spouse, Lawrence, of Oakdale; son, Frederick Marzec Jr. and spouse, Pauline, of Griswold; brother, Joseph Topping of Griswold; sister, Loretta Manning of Griswold; grandchildren, William "B.J." Christina, Michael P. Christina, Andrea Dameron and Melissa Smey; great-grandchildren, Shawn Christina, Alex Christina, Fernando Christina, Jonathon Christina, Alyssa Christina, Jacob Dameron, Noah Dameron, Sydney Dameron, Tyler Smey and Gabrielle Smey; nieces, Diane Manning, MaryAnn Manning and Susan Manning.

In addition to her husband, Rita was predeceased by her brother, Norman "Bobby" Topping.

Family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 24, 201, at Leffler Funeral Home, 30 N. Main St., Jewett City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at St. Mary's Church, Jewett City. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Norwich.
