Groton - William L. Beaman Sr., 89, of Groton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. |
He was born on Oct. 9, 1924, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of the late Robert T. Beaman and Lena Belle (Hildreth) Beaman. He was married on June 12, 1954 to the late Elvira M. Zeppieri Beaman, who passed away on Aug. 20, 1998.
Bill Beaman was a retired ENCS (SS) Navy veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and served his country for 22 years including seven patrols on the USS Flasher during WWII. He was awarded with a Bronze Star Metal and was Sailor of the Year in 1958. He was of the Greatest Generation.
After Navy retirement, he was employed as an operator at the Water Filtration Plant in Groton and later retired from there too.
His survivors include two daughters, Nancy L. Shaw of Groton, Susan E. Thomson of Mystic; two sons, William L. Beaman Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, of Mystic, Robert F. Beaman of Groton; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Mitchell Street, Groton, with a gathering to follow.
