David Bernard "Dewey" Ebbin Obituary
Groton - David "Dewey" Bernard Ebbin of Groton, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 6, 2014.

He was born on March 18, 1930, in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of Lillian (Lebowitz) Ebbin and Aaron Ebbin. He lived in Staten Island for most of his life, graduating from Port Richmond High School and was the valedictorian of his class. He graduated from Cornell University where he served in the Air Force ROTC. He was commissioned as a captain in the U.S. Air Force in Germany during the Korean War. Dewey attended graduate school at Yale University School of Drama where he studied playwriting, produced several plays, and met his wife, Mili. They lived for several years writing and making films in Ibiza, Spain and London, England, subsequently returning to Staten Island where he managed his family real estate business, Ebbin Associates. Dewey also worked at the Public Education Association in New York. He was involved in politics, was a member of the Staten Island Democratic Association and managed several political campaigns. He was an active member of the Staten Island Jewish Community Center where he helped establish the Center's Learning Institute.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Newbury Ebbin; his daughters, Dr. Syma Ebbin and her husband, Michael Kane, of Groton, and Bigi Ebbin and her husband, Eric Page, of Quaker Hill; grandchildren, Aaron, Elias, and Lillian Kane and Molly and Maisie Page; his brother, Dr. Steven Ebbin of Bethesda, Md. and wife, Marilyn; and sister, Anne Nussbaum of Boynton Beach, Fla.; along with his extended family.

The funeral service and burial will be at the Mount Hebron Cemetery in Flushing, N.Y. His family invites friends and family to a celebration of his life from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11, at his daughter's home on Jupiter Point in Groton.
