New London - Yvonne Ferino, 78, of New London, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born on May 3, 1935, in Evesham, England, the daughter of Leslie and Maud (Lampitt) Henly. Yvonne came to the United States in 1956.
She met Antonio J. Ferino, a U.S. Army veteran, and they were married on Sept. 13, 1958.
Yvonne worked for many years as a nurse's aide. When she was not working, she spent all of her time with her two children, Thomas and Lori. She was an extraordinary mother who devoted her life to her family. She would often take them on trips and always made sure holidays were a special time.
Yvonne enjoyed crafting, knitting, and traveling. She could also play a wicked game of cards. Yvonne could never pass by a yard sale without stopping, and, of course, loved having her own. She had an appetite for life, full of friends, laughter, and good times. With a crazy hat, costume, or her infectious laugh, she could light up a room. She was a generous person who always gave and helped others.
In 1995, she became a grandmother, a role she loved. She was there for every moment of Gabrielle's childhood, from the day she was born, to school events, and for all of those crazy summer birthday parties. The two of them shared a special bond and spent as much time as possible together.
Yvonne was predeceased by her husband, Antonio J. Ferino; a brother, Thomas Henly; and a sister, June Gorham.
She leaves behind a son, Thomas Ferino and his wife, Debra (Bienkowski) Ferino, a daughter, Lori (Ferino) Smith and her husband, David Smith, and her beloved granddaughter, Gabrielle Smith. She also leaves behind a sister, Pamela Richardson and her husband, David Richardson, from Australia.
Yvonne was a member of St. Joseph's Church. She found comfort and peace in her religion and faith. At this time we ask those who knew her to say a prayer and to follow in her giving spirit by doing an act of kindness in her memory. She will be sadly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
