Miamisburg, Ohio - Casey Cosker, 26, formerly of Bozrah and Ledyard, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Miamisburg, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2014, at home in Miamisburg.

Casey was born on Sept. 9, 1987, in Norwich, and attended Montessori Discovery School in Norwich, Fields Memorial School in Bozrah, and graduated from St. Joseph School in Norwich in 2001, and from Norwich Free Academy in 2005, where he was on the fencing team for four years. Casey majored in writing and graduated in 2009 from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., with a bachelor of fine arts degree. Casey had a love for books from an early age and a gift for writing. He had a passion for all things literary. He worked at Image Magazine in Brooklyn, and was a mass communication specialist in the U.S. Navy stationed aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, where he contributed articles and photos for navy publications. More recently, he was employed by Civitas Media in Miamisburg, Ohio, and had been accepted to a graduate program for the fall.

Casey leaves behind his mother, Kerry Gross, and father, Brian Sauvageau of Ledyard, who loved him so very much. Casey also leaves his grandmother, Eileen Gross, 94, of Norwich, who shared many happy times with Casey during his childhood, particularly summers at Odetah Campground. Casey was loved by his aunts and their spouses, Nancy and Frank Ennis of Preston, Margaret and Reed Clarke of Vero Beach, Fla.; and four cousins, Courtney Ennis of Bozrah, Ryan Clarke of Orlando, Fla., Matthew Ennis and Reagan Clarke, both of Charlotte, N.C. Casey was also close with his great aunt, Mary O'Connell of Norwich, and his godmother, Ann Barry of Uncasville. Casey had many close friends in New York, Virginia, and elsewhere who will miss him.

Casey was predeceased by his grandfather, Julian Gross, formerly of Bozrah and Brooksville, Fla.

Casey was very active on the Terry Brooks Forum for more than 10 years and was an avid blogger and movie and book critic. People will remember Casey for his wit, humor, and intelligence. He was a gentleman and an explorer, who touched the lives of many.

Casey will be widely missed: by his family, by his array of friends, by his wife. I cherish my letters from him, especially those from our regular correspondence in 2006-2008 when we were both so young and changing every day. He was someone with whom I could share thoughts and struggles that I couldn't comfortably share with anyone else. There will always be a gap where Casey was; it will never be filled.

Truly horrible news. Casey was one of my closest friends when we were at NFA, and while we didn't keep in touch as much as we should have, I always considered him a good friend, and I was always happy to hear from him. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with his family.

Casey was dearly loved by a generation of family friends who watched him grow from infancy to adulthood. We have wonderful memories of him as a gentle and intellectually curious young boy and as a thoughtful, funny and engaging young man who conversed well with adults and loved the used book table at the Ashfield Fall Festival. Our hearts are with you Kerry and Brian and with your entire
family. With love, Judy, Craig, Tess and Eva
