John Becker(1939 - 2012)

John "Jack" Rohrer Becker

September 8, 1939 - November 10, 2012

John "Jack" Rohrer Becker, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family and many friends on November 10, 2012 in Desert Hot Springs, Calif. He was born in Montgomery, Ala. on September 8, 1939 to John Wiggim and Luella "Mickey" Becker and grew up with his older brother Richard "Dick" Becker in Miami Shores, Fla. After graduating from the University of Houston with a BBA in economics and accounting, he pursued graduate studies at East Texas State University with an MA in finance.

Jack enjoyed a 40 year career as a senior executive in the corporate world serving varied companies such as Campbell's Soup, Chase Brothers Dairy, Butcher Boy Foods, Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies and Armstrong Roses as a chief financial/chief operating officer. His astute knowledge of human behavior and leadership skills guided him as a consultant to facilitate the "turn around" of many private sector companies.

In retirement, Jack turned his amazing energy, leadership and gift of working with people to his greatest passion, assisting the community. He served as: President of the Police Advisory Board in Palm Springs, Calif., a trainer for California Emergency Response Teams (CERT) in both Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs, treasurer of the Desert Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and a Planning Commissioner in Desert Hot Springs. His greatest joy was "working" his beloved AKC-certified standard poodles, Davinci, Diva and Sir Rohrer, as therapy dogs in the hospitals, in classrooms with children with Autism, and playing Santa Claus with his dogs for families visiting the Christmas Store.

Jack is survived by his wife Lorraine, his greatest treasure; son, Jeffrey Reynolds Becker and wife Sheran; son, Darrell Wiggins Becker and wife Kirsten; son, Troy Breton Becker and wife Jeri; daughter, Ashley Becker, and the legacy of twelve grandchildren: Andy, Hunter, Walker, Nola, Remy, McCoy, Hutton, Georgie, Riley, Austin, Tatum, and Miles; nephews, Doug and Tim Becker and niece Susan Becker Merritt. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dick and grandson Tanner.

A Celebration of Jack's life will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Saint Paul in the Desert, Palm Springs. In lieu of flowers, to honor Jack the family requests that donations be made to the Guide Dogs of the Desert or Animal Samaritans. Forest Lawn Mortuary, Cathedral City is in charge of arrangements.
