Lionel died on Oct. 29, 2012. Husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather, Labe was a dynamic presence in the lives of his relatives and friends. He possessed a rare ability to befriend and be friends with nearly everyone he met. Labe was an enthusiast. While most enthusiasts have a single thing at which they direct their enthusiasm, Labe's knew few bounds: snow and water skiing, piloting small aircraft, golfing, tennis, photography, fine wines, computing and gadgets of all kinds. He founded the Sun City Photography Club and inspired many through his encouragement. An enthusiastic reader, Labe and his wife Lois were active participants in a local book club, movie club and were active supporters of the arts through their frequent attendance at concerts and festivals. Labe was born in Morrow Bay to Harry and Gertrude Leiter on December 21, 1929. He grew up in Pismo Beach where Harry ran the local pharmacy. In the 1950's Harry, Labe and brother Mort opened three pharmacies in Santa Clara County. In 1995, Labe sold out to Mort and his son Charles, retired and later moved to Palm Desert. He worked for local pharmacies three days a week and golfed at least once a week until he became ill near the end of September. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Lois, daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Robert Haskell and their children, Alex and Sari; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Wendy Leiter and their children, Madeline, Anna Avery and husband Matt, and Rebecca Jones, husband Taylor and their son Harrison. He is also survived by his brother, Morton Leiter.
