Guillermo Solitaria Obituary

Guillermo (Gil/Emong) Tolentino Solitaria, Sr., 85, of La Quinta, Calif. passed away peacefully on Monday, December 6, 2010. He was born on March 25, 1925 in Pasay City, Philippines to Pedro and Felicidad Solitaria. He was a Mechanical Engineer graduate of National University of the Philippines. He served as a Production Engineer at Peter Paul Philippine Corporation in Candelaria, Quezon Province. While at Peter Paul, Gil met Alicia Reyes Aro, M.D. and married on October 6, 1962 in Manila at San Augustin Church. In 1968, they immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio. During his years in Ohio, Gil was employed by General Electric and White Motors Corporation (Truck Division) as a Plant Engineer. In 1991, Gil and his wife moved to La Quinta to enjoy the desert weather. They loved to travel and their journeys took them to the Vatican City and Rome twice, Paris, Lourdes, Bali, Singapore and Hawaii. He spent many enjoyable days on the golf courses in the Philippines and the United States and during his playing days shot three hole-in-ones. Gil will be remembered most for his warm-heart, sense of humor, green-thumb and his beautiful smile. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Alicia; children, Glenn, Gil Jr. (Kelly) and Aimee (Paul Lachance); grandchildren, Christina, Michael, Sawyer, Summer and Spencer; and relatives in Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Pasay City, Calamba, Philippines, Dubai, Canada, Illinois, California and Florida. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Aileen in 1981. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 47-255 Washington Street, La Quinta, CA 92253. A reception will follow. His resting place will be at Forest Lawn, Memorial-Parks & Mortuaries in Cathedral City, CA 92234.

Dear Gemmo,
Sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Kelle had sent me a poem many years ago that is : When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure! I am sure you have many, many "treasures" of your father.
Love and God's Blessing!
