Don J. Roberts Jr. of Palm Desert, Calif., affectionately known as "DJ", passed away on November 15, 2012 at the age of 76. He was born in Santa Monica Calif., on September 7, 1936 to Don Jeffs Roberts Sr. and Marian Cecelia Parker. DJ went to grade school in Indio and then graduated from Coachella Valley Union High School. DJ then received a full ride scholarship to play football at George Pepperdine College where he was 1959 Senior Class President and graduated with at B.A degree. DJ was drafted by the Baltimore Colts to play football; instead he followed his father's path into the produce industry. He began his Coachella Valley produce career working with his father at R.A. Glass Co. and ended his career working alongside his son at J&J Ranch Produce. Produce was truly a family affair for the Roberts who have lived in the Coachella Valley since 1950. DJ is survived by his wife Gloria, son Jeff and (Michelle) Roberts of Palm Desert and their children Tyler and Kyleigh, daughter Jennifer and (Kent) Johnson of Ohio, and their daughter Makenzie and sister Cherryl Roberts Lyons of Bermuda Dunes. DJ was especially proud of his grandson, Tyler, who is following in his grandfather's football footsteps. DJ was a giant among men; not only in stature, but in heart. He had a kind and gentle spirit; nice to all he met. He was loved and will be remembered fondly by many. DJ's life's journey was much too short. We miss him already. A Celebration of his Life will take place on Sunday November 25, 2012 from 3 pm - 6 pm. Mountain View Clubhouse Ventana Room 38180 Del Webb Blvd Palm Desert, Calif. 92211. The family requests in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to the Boy's and Girl's Club of Coachella Valley in DJ's memory.
