Jeannette McBride Obituary

Jeanette (Jan) Reed McBride, a resident of Bermuda Dunes, Calif. for 23 years, passed away on October 26, 2010 after a courageous 13 year battle with cancer. She was born on February 21, 1925 to Lela and Eugene Reed in Sterling, Ill., the eldest of four sisters who survive her, Marjorie France of Rock Falls, Ill., Lucy Haines (Chuck) of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Donna DeGroot, of Rock Falls, Ill. Jan moved to Orange County, Calif. in the1950's, where she spent the next three decades raising two sons, whom she adored, Dennis Jones (Liz) of Kirkland, Wash. and Craig Jones of Las Vegas. Jan worked for Rockwell International in Anaheim for 29 years as an executive secretary and administrative assistant to senior management in the areas of space flight and missile technology during the heyday of the aerospace industry in California. Jan and her husband and companion of 40 years, Marshall, shared a love story for the ages and he was devoted to her until she passed peacefully into God's embrace. In addition to her husband, her sisters, and her sons, she is survived by six loving grandchildren, Amber Henry (David), Emily Goldsmith (Ryan), Hannah Jones , Timothy Jones, Sheena Jones and Christopher Jones; four beautiful great-granddaughters, as well as Marshall's two daughters, Trish Makos (Dan) and Marsha Whitehill (Kelly); and grandson, Tom Schloessmann (Sandra) and his two children.
A private family celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Her unyielding optimism and zest for life, and her love of family and friends, are gifts that will continue to inspire all of us who knew and loved her.

Jan was my oldest sister and loved her all of my life. She was such an inspiration to me. I admired everything that she did. I still miss her to this day!
