.John Phil Franklin, 96, passed away July 17, 2013 in Desert Hot Springs, Calif. He was born September 21, 1916 to Orville and Helen Franklin in Joplin, Mo. He was the first Manager of Bank of America in Palm Desert in 1956 and opened the first cable company in Palm Desert, Abel Cable, in 1961. He retired from Time Warner Cable in Malibu in 1986. He was a member of many clubs including, Rotary, Elks, Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of the 1984 Olympic Committee. He served as a captain in the Army from 1942-1945 and continued serving in the Army Reserves. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Franklin and a brother, Everett Franklin. He is survived by a daughter, Cathleen Franklin of Desert Hot Springs, and a son, Stephen Franklin of Yucaipa. Visitation will be July 23, 2013 from 2-5PM. Graveside services and burial will be held July 24, 2013 at 10AM at Forest Lawn Mausoleum.
