J.W. Sherman Obituary

J.W. Sherman, 90, of Indio, Calif. passed away November 25, 2010. He was born December 27, 1919 to Jessie Orville Sherman and Virginia Mae Sherman in Coalgate, Okla. He married Hazelle Armstrong on December 2, 1941. He was a land surveyer for many years; was the Estate Manager for Walter Annenberg's Sunnylands for ten years; and construction manager for the Bob Hope residence. He retired in 1979. J.W. served as an elder of the Church of Christ for many years and was a minister during most of his retirement in Oregon. J.W. is survived by his sons, Jerry Wayne Sherman (wife, Lois) of Indio and Ronald D. Sherman (wife, Sheila) of Canyon Country, Calif.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazelle Sherman in 2003; two brothers, Delbert and Orvial Sherman; and sister, Jewel Love. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on December 11, 2010 at the Indio Church of Christ, 45-745 Deglet Noor, Indio CA 92201. Internment took place on December 4, 2010 at Riddle Cemetery in Riddle, Ore. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Church of Christ in Indio.
