Karl Scott Obituary

Karl "Scotty" Scott passed through this life to join our God on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010. The first of three children born to Karl P. and Dorothy Scott, Karl grew up in Manitowoc, Wis. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1945 he joined the U.S. Navy and was sent to North Africa. While in the service he met his wife, Evelyn McNeill in Washington, D.C. They married in 1947. After returning to Wisconsin, they had three children, Odell, Cathie and Sally. Karl chose teaching as a profession and began his career at a one-room schoolhouse in Richfield, Wis. He retired from Mequon High School after 36 years of service. After retiring, he and Evelyn moved to Indio, Calif., where he spent 22 years. He enjoyed the desert mountains and volunteering, but not having to shovel snow was also high on his list. Karl's final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Evelyn McNeill Scott; son Odell Scott and wife Bobbi of Dallas, Texas; daughters, Cathie Scott and husband David Russell of Garland, Texas; and Sally Hader and husband Carl of Grafton, Wis.; brothers Roger of Newport News, Va., and Jack of Arizona. Grandchildren Sebastian Oñate of Davis, Calif., Marcel Oñate of San Francisco, Calif., Steven Hader of Dallas, Sarah Hader of Grafton, Amelia VonKennel of Dallas, and Andrew Scott of Dallas; and great-granddaughter Moira Oñate of Davis. Condolences can be sent via e-mail to [email protected]. A memorial service was held on Dec. 1, 2010 in Indio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Odyssey Hospice, 74-350 Country Club Dr., Palm Desert, CA 92260.

So sorry to hear of Karl's passing. He and Eve were among our most dedicated volunteers at JFK Memorial Hospital. Eve was a huge asset to us in the Nursery, and Karl throughout the hospital. As teachers, both inquiring to my kids' progress and accomplishments in school, as well as their own tips for success. I lost track of you when I left JFK, but you are among my fond memories. All the best to you Eve. I'm sorry for your loss.

Compassionate smile, insightful advice, and always listening in a way that made me feel important. I'll always remember the "teacher" Uncle that I knew as a girl. My love to you all at this sad time.

Cathie, I remember going to your house after school. Your mom and dad always treated me great. It's been a long time since I saw them but you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Your dad was a very kind and caring person and he touched so many lives here on earth and now will continue in heaven.
Deepest Sympathy,

I just want to thank all my extended family and friends who have been in touch. It's been a difficult week and I know I will miss that smiling face and twinkle in my dad's eye. He's been my rock for 58 years and I was so fortunate for all that time with him. Rest now, Dad. Your new journey is just beginning.
Love, Cathie.
