Marco DiMare Obituary

Marco Antonio DiMare, 41, of La Quinta, Calif., died on December 1, 2010, the victim of a traffic accident on Interstate 10 in San Gregornio, Calif. The second of two children, Marco was born March 1, 1969 in Cambridge, Mass. to Thomas F. DiMare and Robin Inman. In his early years Marco and his brother Dominic split their time between Concord, Mass. and Newman, Calif. in the San Joaquin Valley. As a child Marco spent countless hours roaming the woods near Walden Pond where he gained an appreciation and love of nature and the out doors that went on to spawn a love of fly fishing. Marco moved to Modesto, Calif. with his family while in grade school. He returned to Massachusetts to attend high school where he joined his brother in living with their grandparents, Dominic and Collette DiMare in Belmont. After high school, Marco attended the University of Colorado in Boulder and was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1991. Colorado was a perfect environment for him to pursue his youthful love of skiing. He attended the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California earning an MBA in 2006. He remained friends with many of the people he met in both college and during graduate school and was in fact returning from playing golf with several of his friends from graduate school when he was killed. Right after college Marco joined the family produce company that had been started by his grandfather, Dominic. Initially, working out of the company's Newman, Calif. facility, Marco honed his skills as a salesman selling tomatoes and later moved to the company's Indio facility. He learned all aspects of the family business and had recently taken over the day to day management of the company. Over the course of his career he had earned the respect of all who worked with him and had established himself as an emerging industry leader. Marco's most important and cherished role was as husband to his wife Jackie whom he met in 1997. They were married at St. Francis of Assisi Church in La Quinta in 2003. He would make her french toast or pancakes every Sunday. They loved to travel and their journeys took them to Spain, Belize, Hawaii and Idaho. Marco also spent time in China, Japan, Mexico and Morocco where he traveled from time to time on business. He was a natural athlete a fact that frustrated his brother greatly, and as a youth he excelled in soccer and skiing. Later in life he developed a love of golf and meticulously pursued the lowest possible index. His passion was fly-fishing and in recent years he had dedicated his free time and energy toward the acquisition of new rods and reels and planning his next trip. He could often be found in his back yard or the street in front of his house perfecting his cast. Marco is survived by his wife, Jackie of La Quinta; his parents, Thomas F. DiMare of La Quinta and Robin Inman of Sacramento; his brother, sister-in-law and nephew, Dominic F., Rina and Dominic L. of Clarksburg, Calif.; his brother, Thomas Jr.; sister, Emilia; stepmother, Billie DiMare and stepfather, Thomas Mills.

Our Deepest Condolences to Jackie, and the DiMare Family, I had the pleasure of being their security guard in La Quinta for many years, meeting the family when they would come to visit. Seeing his Smiling face when he would come through the gate. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. He will surely be Missed, but Not Forgotten.

My sincere condolences to the DiMare Family. I knew only Marco's grandparents, Dominic and Collette, when I lived on Key Biscayne, Key Colony, The Oceansound, where they lived for the winter months. Very strange that I should now be living in La Quinta where Marco lived. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am so sorry to hear about Marco's passing. I went to Boulder with Marco, and one winter, he used to give me a ride from Boulder to Aspen many weekends, where we were both visiting different friends who were living there. In those many hours of driving, I learned what a thoughtful and kind person Marco was. He spoke so fondly of his family, and how much he had learned growing up. Although he clearly knew a lot about work, and business, he always seemed more interested in learning about others than talking about himself. He was humble and courteous.

I know he will always be remembered and missed by his many, many friends from CU. We will keep Marco and his family in our prayers.

I had the pleasure to know and to work with Marco on a business matter in the last year. He was cheerful, smart and very focused on achieving results. It is terrible that such a talented local businessman's life was tragically cut short. My deepest sympathies go out to his wife and to his father Tom and all his family. Wells Marvin, La Quinta
