Mary Haver Obituary

Mary Louise Haver, 88, of Palm Desert, Calif. died in Rancho Mirage, Calif. on September 19, 2010. Mary was born in Los Angeles, Calif. on June 25, 1922 to Pearl and Winslow Lawder. Mary met Charles Haver in 1940 in Pasadena, Calif. and they married on June 25, 1943 at Camp Claiborne, La. After Chuck returned from World War II duty, they lived in the San Francisco Bay area as he attended UC Berkeley, their two sons were born and Mary joined Beta Sigma Phi sorority. In 1954, the family moved back to Pasadena to be closer to their extended family, and their daughter was born. Mary and Chuck were involved in Boy Scouts, Little League, Camp Fire Girls and PTA, enjoyed many friendships and were members of Trinity Presbyterian Church. After moving to the desert in 1975, Mary and Chuck lived at Dorado Villas in Indian Wells for 25 years. Mary served as office manager of Charles Haver and Associates civil engineering firm in Palm Desert until retirement in 1986. Upon retirement, Mary and Chuck visited many countries and enjoyed seeing every state and Canadian province from their motor home. Mary also enjoyed her membership in PEO Chapter RD, the Palm Desert Women's Club and the Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church. Mary was blessed with a beautiful alto singing voice and participated for many years in school and church choirs. She also loved ballroom dancing with Chuck. Mary is survived by her husband, Charles Haver of Palm Desert; son and daughter-in-law, George and Marcia Haver of Davis, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Ginny Haver of Scott Depot, W.V.; daughter, Nancy Haver of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Rebecca and John Bell of the Micah Project of Honduras; Andrea and Scott Bowen of Omaha, Neb., and Sarah Haver of the Pfunanane Ministry of South Africa. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Charles Heaton of Pasadena; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Herb Hall of Willits, Calif. and Loretta and Ted Burke of Goodyear, Ariz. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 1, 2010 at The Fountains at the Carlotta, 41-505 Carlotta Drive, Palm Desert. Interment will be held privately at Mountain View Mausoleum in Pasadena. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund of the Scholarship Fund at The Fountains at the Carlotta.
