Luna Alvarez of Indio, Calif. passed away April 21, 2013 she was known as Mickey. She was born to Pedro Holguin Luna and Maria Quiroz Luna on September 7, 1921 in Thermal, Calif. She went to school at Thermal John Kelly school and moved to Indio in 1930 and continued School at Roosevelt School. After she graduated she started high school at Coachella Valley High School, but did not graduate because she had to take care of her mother because she was very ill. At the age of 16 years old she started to work at Shields Date Garden at the sales room and she had to learn the Romance of the Dates. She worked nine years for Shields Date Garden. She got married on November 8, 1946 to Salomon G. Alvarez. After she got married, three years later she started to work at Frances Café in Indio for twelve years. She also worked at Acapulco Café in Indio for seven years. Not to mention three months for Lopez Café in Indio - all as a waitress. She was a member of the Apostolic Church of Indio. She was involved in the youth group, after she married, with the Ladies Group called "Dorcas" and served as treasurer for both. She was commissioned for three years to head fundraisers for the missionaries. She was treasurer for the Apostolic Assembly, "Dorcas" Ladies at the sector and district levels. She also worked nine years for Riverside County voters on Election Day. She is survived by her oldest son Salomon Alvarez Jr., Mary E. Sepulveda, Gilbert Alvarez, Martha Gallardo, and Peter Alvarez, all of Indio, Calif. nine grandchildren, David M. Gallardo, Gina Gallardo, Dominic Gallardo, Tommy Fanning, Patrick Fanning, Salomon III Alvarez and David B. Alvarez, Peter A. Alvarez and Nicole Marie Alvarez and two Great-granddaughters Jalie and Ashlyn Pickle. Micaela L. Alvarez is preceded in death by her husband Salomon G. Alvarez and her son Armando Alvarez. Visitation will be held at the Apostolic Church of Indio on Monday, April 29, 2013, at the hours of 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a service at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the hour of 10:00 AM with burial to follow at the Coachella Valley Cemetery. FitzHenry-Wiefels Indio Directors.
