Michael Mitchell Obituary

Dec. 11, 1941 - Oct. 14, 2010 Michael Mitchell, age 68, of Palm Desert, Calif. died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass, Ore. Michael was born December 11, 1941 in Palo Alto, Calif. In 1960 he graduated from Poly High School in Long Beach, Calif. and served for four years in the United States Marine Corps. He then graduated with a Master's degree from Cal State University Long Beach. On September 29, 1984 in Orange County, he married his wife, Patricia. He was an archaeologist in both the private sector and for the Department of Interior. He served on the board of the General George Patton Museum and the City of La Quinta Historical Preservation Board. He especially enjoyed reading, football, history and Native American culture. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Mitchell of Palm Desert; his beloved dog, Kira; a sister, Michele and her husband Steve of Grants Pass; two half-brothers, Dick and Travis; a half-sister, Julie; and his stepmother, Bettye. A celebration of Life Service will be held in the desert at a later date. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors of Grants Pass are in charge of arrangements. Remembrances may be made to Josephine Community Library, P.O. Box 1684, Grants Pass, OR 97528.

We send our prayers and sympathies. Mike was a wonderful supporter of the General Patton Museum and provided great support and help during the museum's formative years. He will be remembered fondly by all of us.
