Nicolino Carnevale Obituary

Nicolino Carnevale, 89, passed away at his home in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. with his family by his side on Monday, September 6, 2010. He was born on October 8, 1920 in New York, N.Y. to Carlo and Vita Maria (Scianimanica) Carnevale. Nicolino proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines as well as the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married his wife, Emilie, on August 1, 1947 in New Orleans, LA. Over the course of his long career he owned businesses in New Orleans, San Diego, Las Vegas and, most notably, Nicolino and Sons Italian Bakery, Deli & Restaurant in Palm Springs, Calif., where it was relocated to Cathedral City and is family run to this day. Nicolino was a true restaurateur and consultant and was very instrumental in developing new and innovative food products and designs within the bakery and food industry. In 1988, Nicolino, Emilie and son Mike relocated to Lake Havasu City to enjoy the lake, and purchased Alice's Pizza soon converting it into another successful venture named Nicolino's Italian Restaurant at the corner of Smoketree and Swanson. He then opened Nicolino's Bakery on Mulberry. After 13 successful years he retired. Nicolino is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Emilie Carnevale of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; brother, Mike Carnevale of San Diego; sons, Michael (Kimberly) Carnevale and Mark (Rhonda) Carnevale; grandchildren, Karrie, Michael B., Dominic and Nicolino; great grand-children, Tyler, Michael A., Ryan, Samuel, Kaylie, Courtney and Sophie Lyn. Dear Carnevale Family,
In 1973, Nicolino's was the not-so-secret escape from the lunch menu at Palm Springs High School. Even those of us who were not often in trouble took the chance leaving campus to get a good lunch at Nicolino's. I knew we were on to something when teachers asked us to bring them a sandwich too! Some students even had sandwiches named for them! The "Nick Orcioli" comes to mind.
Thank you the many fond memories and rich contribution to the history of Palm Springs. Rest in God's peace, Mr. Carnevale. May God's peace surround family members at this time of loss and sorrow.

Dear Mark, Rhonda, Karrie & Dominic (Lil' Nic),

We are so sorry for your loss and our hearts and prayers go out to you and with you at this most difficult time. We know your family, friends and faith will see you through it. Your father, father-in-law and grandfather was priviliged to live a long life and bring too many a happy and full belly of italian cuisine. If my grandmother on my mother's side had, had a headstone, it would have read "We are so sorry to see you go" ... Signed "Our Stomachs". I am sure you would agree with that sentiment.
