Robert Joseph Johnson, 78, of Cathedral City, Calif., passed away September 14, 2010 in Palm Desert, Calif. of lung cancer. He was born March 6, 1932 to Joseph T. and Bessie V. Johnson in Troy, Idaho. He married Mary L. Hinkle on August 5, 1973 in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada. He was an Equipment Repair Technician with California water and telephone, GTE and Verizon. He retired in 1986 after 36 years of service. Robert is survived by his spouse, Mary L. Johnson of Cathedral City, Calif.; daughter, Carla (Steve) Mirich of Templeton, Calif.; sons, Rick Johnson of Palm Springs, Calif. and Stephen Johnson of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; sisters, Fern Anderson of Moscow, Idaho and Dorothy Payne of Spokane, Wash.; brother, Earl Johnson of Moscow, Idaho; 2 grandchildren, Lia (Chris) Thomas of Cathedral City, Calif. and John R. (Sonya) Burkett of Palm Springs, Calif. and 7 great-grandchildren, Karli Risk, Christie, Annabelle, John and Dylan Thomas, Eden and Ella Burkett. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Swanson and Phyllis Johnson. Future private interment will be at Desert Memorial Park, Cathedral City, Calif. Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks and Mortuaries.

Mary kept us, her cousins, updated with Christmas postings over the years on her travels with Bob, and about their wonderful, happy family. Our deepest condolences go out to all.

The loss of a loved one is always sad. I hope you are able to keep the good memories of pleasurable times shared forever! Special thoughts and prayers are still going to all three kids, my niece and nephew and their respective families, to Mary, and to Annabelle as well. I hope your journey through the grief process is bearable.

I worked with Bob in Palm Springs from 1978 until he retired from GTE.I remember him well as a very kind man.My thoughts and prayers go out to his whole family.
