Rose Monforte Obituary

Rose Monforte, 83, of La Quinta, Calif. passed away peacefully at home on November 2, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was born Aurora Rose Akullian on December 9, 1926, in Hartford, Conn. She attended Cornell University. After college, she went to work in the family business. She liked to tell her children the story of the day when a handsome young man walked into the family business and she heard bells knowing that she was going to marry him. As fate would have it, she did marry that handsome young man, Salvatore Monforte, in June of 1947. They lived in upstate New York until 1963 when they moved to California to start a new life. Rose was both a homemaker and worked in the restaurant business while raising her family. She was a loving, giving matriarch who adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rose reserved a special place in her heart for babies and small children, always lighting up upon seeing their shining spirits. Rose and Sal moved to La Quinta in 1995, enjoying the beautiful surroundings, their family and friends. Their home is jokingly referred to as the "Monforte Resort." She loved the Santa Rosa Mountains, especially in the early morning hours when, kissed by the sun, they glowed rose pink, just like her.
Rose is survived by Sal, her loving husband of 63 years; her five children, Karen McMaken, David and Mary Monforte, Diane and Dorian King, Sal Jr. and Johanna Monforte, Daniel Monforte and Denise; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Rose will forever be remembered for her loving, giving, unselfish spirit by all those who had the honor of knowing her and to all those whose lives she touched. She will be eternally loved and her memory lovingly cherished. Friends and family are invited to Rose's Celebration of Life at Laguna de la Paz, Saturday, November 27, 2010, 12:00-3:00 PM. To Sal Jr. (Salad Head)
I'll always remember your mom in the kitchen with 3 pots on the stove. Amazing smells. Buffy on her bed near the back door and your mom's hot Barracuda in the driveway. You had one of the truly great Mom's on this earth. She was always very generous to you with her tip money.
Take care Sal,
Blockhead
