Bill H. Norred was called home to be with the Lord on June 26, 2010. He was 89. Bill was born in Piggott, Ark. on June 12, 1921 with his twin brother, Bert. They grew up on a farm during the great depression. After graduating from high school, he worked at C.C.C. camps. At that time, Detroit was one of the few "booming towns" in the mid-west, so he moved there and found a job in the automotive industry. His brother, John, was living in San Diego and convinced Bill that the weather was a lot better than Detroit, so Bill moved to San Diego and worked in the aircraft industry before joining the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served honorably in World War II, in the South Pacific, stationed on Saipan and Tinian. He broke his leg in the Navy and was sent to a Navy hospital in Chicago. It was in Chicago where he met the love of his life, Jeanne Perry. They were married in 1946 and were happily married for 63 years before she passed away in January of 2009. When they first married, they lived in Detroit. One December it snowed almost every day, so Bill told Jeanne they were "going to California". In California, Bill worked in the aircraft industry before employment with General Motors in Southgate, and Jeanne worked for Cadillac in downtown L.A. Their daughter, Diane, was born in Hollywood in 1951. Bill retired from General Motors in 1981. He built and sold homes in the South Bay area. He and Jeanne moved to Mission Viejo in 1985 where they lived for 25 years. He loved fishing and held the record for trout and catfish at Lake Mission Viejo. He also loved to play pool. He will be remembered as a loving father and as a kind and gentle man. He was well-liked by all that came in contact with him, and was known for his unselfish generosity. He was preceded in death by his older brother, John; and sister, Constance. He is survived by his daughter, Diane (Don) Aaker of La Quinta; his twin, brother, Bert (Bea) Norred of Dana Point; and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank the excellent caring staff at The Fountains at the Carlotta and the kind people at Odyssey Health Care, and a special thanks to our dear friend, John Hartfield--Pastor of Community Outreach at Desert Springs Church. There will be a Celebration of Life for Bill at The Fountains at the Carlotta Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM.
